Summer travel with Amex-Delta Skymiles Cards

Delta and Amex are running a limited time offer on the Skymiles cards that really pumps up the potential bonus miles. So if you are looking to book a Delta flight, here is a chance to get a statement credit on that purchase and set yourself up for a ton of miles to be redeemed for future travel.

    Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card

Earn 50,000 Bonus Miles after you make $2,000 in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months† and a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months. This offer expires on 7/6/16.

You also get a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95. And you and your companions can check bags for free.

And those 50,000 miles can be turned into up to two round trip tickets.

    Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card

Earn 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles and 60,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $2,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months. In addition, earn a $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months. This offer also expires on 7/6/16.

This card comes with an annual Fee $195. But after one year, you will earn a free companion ticket. And you and your companions can check bags for free.

These are good offers. I took a similar offer last year.

I'm just scratching the surface on what you can do with credit card signup offers. But over the last few years I've done 70,000 Ultimate Rewards points, 50,000 United miles, 100,000 Southwest points, and 50,000 SkyMiles miles thanks to signup bonuses.

In fact, I said this earlier: if I am not spending towards the minimum on a bonus offer, I feel like I am just wasting money.

It is much easier to get excited about rewards and bonuses worth something like 40% or 50%, than regular spending at 1% to 2%.

I literally received this email from Delta while reading this post:

EARN DOUBLE THE REFERRAL BONUS MILES THROUGH JULY 6.

Share everything you love about the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card with your friends and earn 10,000 bonus miles for each approved referral1 - that's double the referral miles!

    STEP 1: SPREAD THE WORD
Invite your friends to sign up for the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card by July 6, 2016.

    STEP 2: THEY EARN BIG
For a limited time, they'll receive an elevated welcome bonus of 50,000 bonus miles (originally 30,000 bonus miles) after spending $2,000 or more in eligible purchases with their new Card in the first 3 months of Card Membership2.

    STEP 3: YOU EARN BIG
You'll receive 10,000 bonus miles for each approved referral, up to 55,000 bonus miles per calendar year.

Too funny on the timing. But it does look like their is a big push to get people to sign up. Too bad I already have the card. And that I am unwilling to spam my friends.

I agree. My desire to earn bonus points is not going to lead me to increase the spam my friends get. I'd rather keep the friends than earn a free trip.

Thanks for this tip. Just booked a flight on Delta and took advantage of the offer. Can't believe I got $50 off a $180 ticket. I am loving cheap oil prices!
