Blue Cash Preferred Annual Fee Increase

By all accounts, American Express will be increasing the annual fee for the Blue Cash Preferred to $95 (from $75).

But there is a catch - that fee increase will occur on August 3, 2016. And, if you apply before then, they will grandfather your annual fee at $75.

Just some quick math for those who maybe only want the BCP for its 6% reward on groceries (capped at your worst $6,000 of grocery spending).

    With $75 Annual Fee

    Total Reward = $360 ($6,000 * .06)
    Annual Fee = $75
    Net Benefit = $285
    Net Benefit Percentage: 4.75%

    With $95 Annual Fee

    Total Reward = $360 ($6,000 * .06)
    Annual Fee = $95
    Net Benefit = $265
    Net Benefit Percentage: 4.42%

So you still end up with more than 4% cash back on your groceries, plus 3% on gas and departments stores (no cap!), and 1% everywhere else.

Thanks for the heads up. I have the BCP card on my radar, but am still working on a signup offer with another card. This will speed up my timetable to get the BCP, though.

Any idea why Amex is raising the annual fee?

This is a great card. I recommend getting it before the fee increases!
