Mom used my name to open account w/ Swiss Colony and 7th Avenue

I now HATE those places that send catalogs to your home with PRE-APPROVED credit stamped all over it! After I had moved out of my parents' home, Swiss Colony and 7th Avenue apparently sent them to me, and instead of crossing my name out and putting her own, my mom opened accounts in my name. When I discovered them, I confronted her (after calling the companies and getting the accounts "verified" in their eyes  ). She told me she was making payments. *sigh*

Apparently they use SSNs as account #s and her SSN is RIGHT THERE! I mentioned this to them, and got nowhere AGAIN!

To make a long story short... This is something I have been fighting for a loooong time with no success. Both accounts say they need a notarized letter signed by me and my mom that it is her account and her responsibility. Mom doesn't want to do that (God forbid she damage HER credit rating!!) - and I know that I can sue her, etc. but that isn't an option. I just want it removed from my CRA. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

    THANKS

First things first, until they change the account responsibility, close those accounts. Don't allow any new charges to occur.

Basically what your mom did was identity theft. Of course, you can't sue your family members....

    You can do the following:

    1) Contact the fraud department of the CRAs. You can request that a fraud alert be placed on your file. No more instant credit, though.

    2) Notify the creditor in writing of the identity theft. Send it CRR just in case they pretend like they don't get it. You can call, but keep a call log, getting names of everyone you speak with. Specifically, ask them to produce your signature on an application.
(Did your mom sign your name on the app?)

When I discovered the accts on my CR, they were already closed due to non payment. But thanks for the advice!!! I've written them and spoken to them several times. I've got names and stuff, but those people are either idiots or think I am. I haven't asked for a signed application - that is an idea. THANKS!

    Any other advice???

Mellie is right, but that's really the LOOONG way to do this.

Discrepency on credit report... Verizon fraud dept FINALLY deleted

If you read the above thread, you'll see that JAA's problem was EXACTLY like yours.

And if you do exactly what he did, you'll have the deletion letters next week.

You can draw this out into a a 6 months or 1.5 year nightmare like most people, or you can stand up for your rights and be done in a week.

Please post if you have any problems.

Thanks, I just made a copy of that letter and will fax it off as soon as I get a fax # for them. I will post follow ups as they come.
