    These days you may get a break just nicely explaining your problem.

    I recently had a collector report the account as "disputed" to the bureaus in response to the validation request. Technically, they complied with the FDCPA. However, the account was still on the credit.

    My client had problems getting the security clearance, and we didn't think a "disputed" collection would cut it. That's exactly what I told the guy in charge of the account. He said he understand and promptly sent out a very nice letter, stating that the account was closed and nothing was owed, they would notify the bureaus, and they apologized.
