Don't Fall for These Tricks with Prepaid Cards

You are out of work or trying to supplement your income with part-time work and see an ad to become a mystery shopper. One of the tasks involves purchasing three Green Dot MoneyPak reload pre-paid cards for $500 each. Then you get a request to give the anonymous person who posted the gig the pin number on the back of the Green Dot card, which basically unlocks the funds. You feel no problem as you will get a check from a legitimate business for $1800 in a few days.

On the back of MoneyPak card, it warns consumers not to provide the 14-digit code to people or businesses they don't know.

What happened was the check was fake and she never got replies from the fictitious company again.

The moment you give out the number and the funds are unlocked to receive the cash from the card the money is gone and sometimes even out of the country.

That is your typical too good to be true scenario. Almost as dumb as those email scammers who say you can deposit their million dollar check and can keep $100,000 of it if you just send them $5,000 for processing.

Too much risk and not very believable for me to ever get involved with that type of so-called work. There are jobs out there for people to do which pay an honest wage to help you go buy a prepaid debit card.

Scams will always exist. You just need to sniff it out and listen to your intuition.

There are a lot of them sprouting up. You need to learn that decent hard work and earning an honest pay is the way to go.

    Mr Cards -

Thanks for this great tip. If you saved even one person from this scam, that would be great.
