I was not aware until today that I am required to start making withdrawals from my retirement accounts starting at age 70. It starts at 3.5%, but soon ratchets up to 5%.
This is crazy.
70 is still pretty young. I could go on building wealth, bit drawing it down. It is like they want to force people to retire. After all, who wants to pay regular income taxes on withdrawals from your savings if their working. It pushes you up a bracket.
How could they not make us aware of this well in advance?

This is going to have a big impact on the market as the first baby boomers start retiring. It will cause a lot of selling pressure from a large cohort that has spent the last 30-40 years accumulating financial assets. Now they will be liquidating them to pay for expenses.

I think wigeons really identified how the next demographic wave will hit us. I can only hope it is offset by the millennial finally growing up, settling down, and starting to save and invest.

All my life, I've heard warnings of doom and gloom. Yet society has yet to collapse.
This seems to be just one more of those things that I'd rather wait and see on, then jump to a conclusion.

This is interesting. It could have a real impact, couldn't it, as you think about the changing supply and demand of the markets.
