I do not think I have any issue manufacturing spending to get over the top for a bonus reward minimum spend.

But if I am going for bonuses on multiple cards, how do you keep track of how much you need to spend on each card by what date?

James: I use a spreadsheet. Also, I never pursue more than one or two bonus offers at a time. I don't mind the work. But even I have my limits.

FWIW, I've also seen discounted gift cards on eBay. (In fact just napped an iTunes gift card for 15% off.)

I need to give props to LA Thinker. His manufactured spending methodology definitely works.

    Brilliant!

Issuers know what you are doing. I would think there would be limits to this before you get banned.

I think this should be a more serious concern. The banks must be on to this type of manufactured spending. And they must be trying to slow or stop it.

If all your spending is on gift cards, what happens if a bank bans you. Or two banks. Then you may not even be able to open a checking account.

Its one thing to spend a couple hundred on regular store spending and a couple hundred on gift cards (especially around the holidays). But another thing to only buy gift cards in the first month with a card to exactly meet a welcome offer.

    I'd tread carefully.
