Earn More Disney Rewards with Disney Credit Card

Calling all Disney fanatics: it is time to earn more Disney Rewards than ever with the updated Disney Premier Credit Card.

Do you love going to Disney? Do you go there even without the kids? Then this is the card for you. Because Disney finally improved the welcome offer and other perks associated with the Disney rewards card.

Before you go on, just be advised that there are both a Disney Premier and regular Disney Rewards credit cards. The premier versions of the card comes with a $49 annual fee and a higher regular rewards earning opportunities. Otherwise, the cards are equivalent right now.

So what do you get with a Disney rewards card?

    Sign Up Bonus Offer

You can now earn a $200 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. (This is a dramatic increase!)

On top of that, you can get a $50 gift card when you add an authorized user in first three 3 months after account opening.

Add this two together, and you get a 50% yield on your spending on the bonus offer alone. Not too shabby.

There is a catch. The bonus offer is only available to new cardmember who have not received a Disney card welcome bonus in the past 24 months.

    Earning Regular Rewards

On top of the welcome offer, you can also earn rewards points as follows:

    • Earn 2% in reward dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most Disney locations
    • Earn 1% on all your other card purchases
    • There's no limit to the number of reward dollars you can earn

Note: The Disney Premier card has a $49 annual fee. There is a no fee version of the card as well.

With the no fee version, you earn 1% on all card purchases. And the welcome offer is only for a $50 statement credit (which you get just by making one purchase, however).

Because of the difference in the welcome offer, we see no reason to go with the no fee Disney Rewards Visa.

    Using Your Rewards Points

Now to the fun part: redeeming your Disney Rewards points. (You do not need to be a kid to enjoy - just one at heart.

Here is what you can use your point for:*

    • Redeem toward most everything Disney, including Disney movie tickets, DVDs, toys, costumes and more
    • Enjoy the flexibility to redeem reward dollars for a statement credit toward airline travel
    • No block-out dates when redeeming toward rewards

On top of that the Premier version of the Disney card allows you to redeem points for airline travel. This is no available with the no-fee version.

    Cardmemeber Perks

Being a Disney Rewards cardmember does not turn you into a cast member. But it does provide some nice additional perks that all Disney fans can enjoy:*

    • Disney Character Experience at our private Cardmember location at the DisneylandŽ and Walt Disney WorldŽ Resorts.
    • Save on select merchandise purchases, dining most days and select guided tours at the DisneylandŽ and Walt Disney WorldŽ Resorts
    • Save on select merchandise purchases at Disney Store and DisneyStore.com
    • Special vacation financing on select Disney vacation packages

On top of that, Disney can now offer you “Star Wars™ Perks”:*

    • Star Wars Character Experience at our private Cardmember location at the DisneylandŽ and Walt Disney WorldŽ Resorts.
    • 10% off select Star Wars merchandise purchases of $50 or more at select locations at the DisneylandŽ and Walt Disney WorldŽ Resorts8

    * There are some conditions and limitations to these perks. But nothing too onerous.

    Fees

The Premier version of the Disney card comes with a $49 Annual Fee. The regular version of the card has no annual fee.

Both cards offer a 0% Promo APR for the first six billing cycles following the purchase date on select Disney vacation packages, provided your account is not past due on the purchase date. After that, a 16.24% APR (which will vary based on the Prime Rate).

The regular APR for this card is currently 16.24%. And there is a balance transfer fee of 3% (minimum of $5).

FYI, I’ve seen balance transfer offers for the Disney Rewards Cards. But none is currently advertised on the website. You may want to call to see if there are any special offers available.

    The Bottom Line

For lovers of classic Disney cartoons and characters, or Star Wars, then Disney Premier credit card offers you a way to earn points towards your next Disney vacation.

Even better than this card is being a Florida resident and qualifying for in-state pricing on park admissions. Saves a ton of money.

This card would be even better if it gave you greater access to fast passes.

Just to be clear, the difference between the Disney Premier and Disney Rewards Visa cards are:

    1. The Disney Premier has a $49 annual fee, The Disney Rewards card has no annual fee.

    2. The Disney Premier card has a bonus offer worth up to $200 (after you spend $500 in the first 3 months) plus the ability to earn an additional $50 gift card by adding an authorized user in the first three months.

The Disney Rewards has a $50 welcome offer. Smaller, but you can earn it by making just one purchase.

    3. With the Disney Primer Visa, you can earn 2% in reward dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most Disney locations. 1% on everything else.

With the no-fee version, you earn 1% in rewards dollars on everything.

    4. You can redeem your rewards dollars for air travel with the Disney Premier Visa. This option is not available with the Disney Rewards Visa.

Looking at all that, I think this is one case where the annual fee definitely pays for itself. Several times over, in fact.

Makes me wish I had written it that way in the first place.

I was not aware the Disney Premier offered such a great return on the sign up offer. This would be a great card. We live super close to Disneyland. Unfortunately, it is issued by Chase and I still live under the shadow of their 5/24 rule.

Reading this made me think how near perfect weather in Orlando is this time of year. Makes me want to go to Disney World.
