New Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card

Amazon and Chase introduced a face-life to the Amazon Rewards Credit Card. Now Amazon Prime members will earn 5% back for their purchases on Amazon (matching the Amazon Prime store card offered by Synchrony).

If at any time your Prime membership expires, then you go back to earning 3% back.

New cardmembers are also eligible for a $70 gift card for signing up.

Also, I called the 800 # last night. Existing Amazon Rewards cardholders are automatically updated the the Prime Rewards card. Your new card will be shipped in the next 45 days. But you will be enjoying 5% back on your Amazon purchases (Assuming you are a Prime member) as of January 11, 2017.

    Nice investigative journalism.

But in all seriousness, thanks for saving the time of calling. Nice to know that I was automatically upgraded.

Wait ... I just took out the prime store card. But it looks I will not need it anymore. Which is good, as I prefer the Chase card. And the store card was not taken on the Prime Now app for some reason.

Finally Amazon closed the gap with its store card.

Also, don't forget that this card also earns you 2% for purchases at restaurants and gas stations and 1% for everything else -- all of which can be redeemed as credit on Amazon.

Side note: what is the everything else category? Isn't Amazon the everything store?

Amazon is definitely out to dominate retail. 5% back on everything is just fantastic.

This must be the nature of the email I got saying I should log in to my account to see my secure email. So I can just ignore it.

FYI Chase, if it is important, mail me a letter. Not an email that takes multiple steps to read.

I wonder how much this improved card will encourage impulse Amazon purchases, instead of shopping around. Amazon often is more expensive than going to the store.

    So use this card wisely.

Well sometimes, convenience does trump price.

That being said, I think you got to the hear of why Amazon made this move.

Does anyone know when updated cards are shipping? And when I look on Amazon.com, it still says I'm getting 3%, not 5%. Are you sure I was upgraded automatically? Do I need to call?
