HUGE Offer for Marriott RewardsŪ Premier Credit Card

Right now the Marriott RewardsŪ Premier Credit Card is offering a tremendous into offer. Especially for bigger spenders.

    The offer?

Why, you will get 5 POINTS per $1 spent ON ALL PURCHASES within your first year - on your first $30,000 of spending. That means you can earn up to 150,000 points!

Plus, the annual fee is waived the first year (after that $85/yr).

    Other Perks

After you have spent $30,000 on purchases, you'll continue to earn points*:

    • 5X points per $1 spent at participating Marriott RewardsŪ and SPGŪ hotels
    • 2X points per $1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies and restaurants
    • 1X point per $1 spent on purchases anywhere else

On top of that, you'll get 1 Free night at a Category 1-5 hotel every year after your account anniversary. (See Marriott site for more details on hotel categories.)

And remember you can combine your Marriott and SPG points, allowing existing points to go even further.

5% on everything -- assuming one Marriott point is worth one cent, that is -- is a stupendous offer. So, has anyone done the math on this?

How will they not lose money on this card?

It only works if people keep it for years after the promo period. And stay loyal to Marriott.

You can spend less and get more with the traditional sign up offers with the Marriott and SPG cards and then combining points.

New SPG card: 25,000 SPG points (equivalent to 75,000 Marriott points) for spending $3,000 in 3-months. Plus add 3,000 points (assuming lowest rate of rewards) and you get 28,000 SPG points or 84,000 Marriott points.

New Marriott card: 80,000 Marriott points after spending $3,000 in 3-monhts. Plus add 3,000 points (assuming again the lowest rate of rewards) and you have 83,000 Marriott points.

Add them together, you spend $6,000 and have 167,000 Marriott points. At a cost of $.0.036 per point.

With the "HUGE" offer you site, you spend $30,000 for 150,000 points. At a cost of $0.20 per point. Which makes that offer more than 5.5 times more expensive.

Great point! I lost the forest for the trees there. And I am sure other did as well. But I guess that was the point of the "enticement".

Good catch at the intended misdirection from Chase/Marriott ... who obviously benefit by you just spending more with their card.

Hey ... I heard of another Marriott offer. 100,000 points by spending $5,000 in the first there months. Anyone else hear of this one? I can't find anything on the Marriott site.

Yeah. I heard about CardDude's deal. I think it is for existing rewards members who have not taken out the card. And I agree it looks better than the 150,000 point offer. Though, you do get a lower return on your points than the baseline Marriott and SPG deals, it does let you collect more points.

I am still trying to figure out if the 100,000 puts for $5,000 of spending is the "new" Marriott welcome offer, or just a promotional one.

Meanwhile, Starwood does have a limited time promo offer:

    Regular Welcome Offer:

Earn 25,000 bonus StarpointsŪ after you use your new Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months.

    Limited Time Bonus Offer:

Earn an extra 10,000 bonus StarpointsŪ after you make an additional $2,000 in purchases within the first 6 months. This additional offer ends 4/5.

That is 35,000 Starwood points, or 105,000 Marriott points for $5,000. (Before the regular value of your spending). Looks like an even better return on your spend.
