Excited for my first month of AmEx offers

I do not know why it was a big deal for me, but I finally qualified for an American Express card. And I was really looking forward to taking adverting of AmEx Offers.

Bu so far I've been disappointed. They seem to be for places I don't shop at, or have even heard of. Will these offers improve as I use the card?

I believe that the offers you receive will be more based on geography and who is marketing with American Express at the time (in terms of national deals). More like a Money Mailer coupon package than an algorithmic offering.

Possibly less useful, but also less an intrusion into your privacy. The advertisers are buying access to a big market, not data mining you.

I don't think everyone gets the same offers. There is a little more to it then you suggest.

You are right. I did over-generalize.

Some rewards offers go to every Amex card. And some go to only a few types of cards. Others are more targeted, but based on overall spending levels.

And Amex may be doing even more detailed targeted, but it does not seem that way.

The Amex offers are usually meh, but I am often able to stack them with other offers. They they are beautiful.

I've had some good success stacking Amex offers with other deals/bonus opportunities. Often I can get the offer price w/o using an American Express card.

Thanks for the tips and info.

I'm also told the more you spend, the more offers are made available to you. Tricky that way ... since most of the money in cards is from charging interest.
