"Can You Hear Me Now?" Scam

I can’t make this stuff up.

Scammers are now calling people, pretending to be telemarketers, and trying to get them to say “yes” to something, usually the the question: can you hear me?

With your recorded yes, they are then signing you up for stuff. According to one report:

“The recordings may be used to authorize charges on a stolen credit card or to trick an automated cable company system, according to CBS News. The con artist already has your phone number and may have already collected some of your personal information, such as your credit card numbers or account numbers, as a result of a data breach.”
What will they think of next?

The bottom line: just don't talk to people you don't know or answer calls from numbers you don't recognize. Because scammers and telemarketers want to make us a less polite (though safer) society.

If this sort of ingenuity was put towards good, and not evil, the world would be a far better place.

i doubt anyone can do any real damage to you with a verbal consent. it just might be a pain to reverse everything. still, another reason to be extra careful. what iOS the world coming too.

Who would've thought that answering the phone could be as dangerous as using 123456 as your password.

Crazy times indeed. But better than dealing with highway men.
