Taxpayer Lawsuit Against the IRS Over 2015 Hack Attack
A class action lawsuit was recently filed agains the IRS in connection with the 2015 hack attack that left 330,000 taxpayer accounts exposed.
Recently courts have ruled that the Federal Trade Commission can go after companies for bad cybersecurty.
So will courts also grant private citizens the right to sue the IRS over bad cybersecurity as well?
And does it matter that the IRS was aware of the flaws in its security?
We'll have to wait and see.

I don't see how they can win any money out of this. Isn't the most likely result some meaningless order that the IRS take cybersecurity more seriously. Which makes me wonder why a lawyer would take this case on. No fat fees.

The government can't even protect the data of their own employees. What makes anyone think they will take extra care protecting taxpayer data?
