A Look at Apple Pay 1 Year Later

A reliable PAYMENTS survey was done with 2,000 consumers who have an iPhone 6 or 6s phones. The consumers were not asked what they might do when it comes to using Apple Pay to pay or remembered doing, the survey actually saw what they did in the stores where Apple Pay is available for them to use.

And quarter after quarter, what was discovered is that those consumers who can (have the iphones and shop in stores where it is accepted), simply don't use it very much. apple Pay usage has come to a halt. After 12 months of viewing, approximately 5 percent of usage was done after over a year on the market.

That means that transactions where Apple Pay can be used consumers and merchants each equipped with the right handset/app and POS environment, just 5 percent of them used Apple Pay to checkout. So, 95 percent use another method. Chase Pay has just become available too so donlt expect the banks to help Apple any with their low margins.

That is really surprising to know. I would have figured at least 1/4 of the people who have it would use it.

    What does this mean?

I know it does hurt VISA, Mastercard, American Express or Discover if Apple Pay and Google Wallet are not accepted as much.

But that would mean they are using their debit card or VISA, Mastercard or Discover card right?

maybe it will take off once the chains start activating the new (and by new, I mean SLOW) card readers. anything has to be faster than the pin cards. a three person line is now a serious time suck with those things.
